About Julian.

Hello!

I’m Julian. I am a Software Developer & Researcher based in an incredibly beautiful city, where two oceans meet – Cape Town. I am conducting Blockchain & Privacy research at the University of Cape Town, and having a go at building FoodPrint – a blockchain-enabled digital food supply platform for smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa. On the odd occasion, I provide consulting services through Bridgehouse Technology – an emerging technology advisory and services firm – where I am a partner. My ambition is to use technology and innovation to advance society at scale.

I have previously developed enterprise operations management software at j5 International which was then acquired by Hexagon PPM (a global software development and services company). Whilst at j5 / Hexagon PPM, my time was split between web development, project management and technical sales – across the Middle East, Africa, Europe and South America. Prior to joining j5 International, I developed institutional investment management software at Allan Gray (Africa’s largest privately owned investment management firm). Outside of software development, I have active interests in business, public speaking / communication and media.

On this blog, I primarily write about Technology, Business and Travel (I’m in love with cities I’ve never been to and people I haven’t met!). A few of my favourite things – Seriously Good Coffee, Coding, FinTech, Machine Learning, The City of Gold (Johannesburg), Podcasting, Photography, Reading, Speaking, Writing, Road Trips and Glenfiddich.
